vestida de santa

I wasn’t sure what to call this, but I remember seeing people dressed in white walking all over Havana and wondering what that was about. Don’t quote me, but something to the affect apparently of the Yoruba tradition of taking a saints name means Santeria practitioners must spend a year preparing to become full members of the religion completely dressed in white. I forget the exact meaning behind it and why, but it’s very striking to see people walking around and then almost like a ghost someone appears dressed in white. It’s quite beautiful to see and just another simple example of how rich the culture is.

Forgive me for completely over simplifying the whole thing, it’s late and I’m tired.
