Downtown Oakland has been undergoing a bit of a renaissance for some time now and despite all the bad press Oakland gets, there are some great places to go and good things happening in Uptown/Downtown Oakland and the Lake Merritt area. This photo is probably more reminiscent of what people have grown accustomed to given the economy (boarded up buildings, commercial vacancies), but the orange paint on this was such an anomaly in what is otherwise a concrete mosaic of beige and gray in the city.

This is just outside the 12th street BART station. BART, for folks not familiar with the Bay Area,  stands for Bay Area Rapid Transit  and is the San Francisco Bay area’s commuter rail (LIRR, T, Metro, etc.). The train that goes from the city to the burbs.
